Illustration for an article in Circusmagazine about circus behind bars. Prisoners are given the opportunity to take circus lessons. The re-integration of prisoners is a difficult matter. Two years ago, the prison in Leuven started with a weekly circus lesson. Prisoners can learn to trust each other. They can also get rid of their stress by learning to juggle. It is a wonderful opportunity to prepare prisoners for their return to society. The illustration provides an overview of which activities are taking place. The different disciplines on offer are very varied and include trumpet or accordion playing, accrobatics, juggling, magic and much more.
Teacher: “Unsafe? But no, we’re having a great time!”
Prisoner: “I’m really looking forward to showing my tricks to my daughter.”
